Flow Trends in Observed Data and Climate Change Scenarios

Abstract: During implementation of EU Water Framework Directive in member countries of European Union, it is increasingly evident that the water management planning according to this directive will have to take into account also projected impacts of climate warming on water cycle and water resources. Possible climate change adaptation measures could be associated with requirements for high investments in water sector in the Czech Republic and therefore specific attention is paid to reducing the uncertainties involved mainly in climate change scenarios. The approaches, which can be used for this purpose, include analyses of observed data with the aim to assess conformity between recent trends in the series of hydrological and meteorological variables and projections developed by the simulations based on climate change scenarios. The paper summarizes selected results of the application of these approaches.
