Abstract: This paper presents the relations between the mean, maximum and minimum observed discharges in small catchments in the South of Brazil, with areas ranging from 0.53 to 125 km2. Relations between the daily mean, maximum and minimum discharges obtained from instantaneous flows and the ones registered at 7 am and at 5pm are presented. Results show that the daily mean discharge and the instantaneous minimum discharge are estimated with acceptable accuracy by the average value of observed discharges at 7 am and at 5 pm, when the data were analyzed considering individual catchments. When data of all catchments were analyzed together, excluding the days when there was no discharge variation, the adjustments between instantaneous discharges and the discharges registered at 7 am and at 5 pm provided satisfactory results regarding the determination coefficient (R2).
