Abstract: Prediction of local scour holes that develop downstream of hydraulic structures plays an important role in their design. Excessive local scour can progressively undermine the foundation of the structure. Although there have been significant advances made in scouring phenomenon to impinging jet, there are still limited studies in some aspect of the phenomenon; for instance, time-dependent analysis of scouring from impinging jet, which will form the basis of the present study. The temporal development of clear-water local scour dimensions down steam of impinging jets in both uniform and non-uniform sediments considered in this experimental paper. The effects of drop height and discharge for uniform and non-uniform sediments were investigated. The objective of this study is to develop an empirical equations to predict dimensional of scour hole (length, width, and depth) based on dimensional analysis and the effect of non-uniformity of sediment are also considered.
