Abstract: In Pakistan canals are being used for the irrigation of agricultural areas. In order to simultaneously utilise the energy of the water, it is conceivable to deploy small hydro power plants within those irrigation canals. Therefore, the hydro power potential of several irrigation canals of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province was assessed for the deployment of two different energy converters: A floating energy converter, which mainly uses the kinetic energy of the flow velocity and a fixed Hydro Pressure Machine, which uses the potential energy. Results of the analyses for both energy converters are shown and compared.
