Abstract: A two-dimensional, laterally averaged numerical model has been developed to describe salt wedge intrusion in the estuary of Strymonas River in Northern Greece. The sensitivity of various input parameters of the model on salt wedge intrusion length, e.g., freshwater river discharge, tidal amplitude, Manning's roughness coefficient, river mouth width and sill height at the river mouth, is analysed. Based on this sensitivity analysis, useful suggestions are given for management of the estuary to minimize salt wedge intrusion.
