Abstract: A time-dependent model for obliquely incident non linear waves is developed and applied to predict the alongshore sediment transport. The wave model is based on the Boussinesq equations for breaking and non breaking waves. Wave breaking is introduced by adopting the surface roller concept. The eddy viscosity due to wave breaking is calculated by solving the transport equation for turbulent kinetic energy. For the prediction of the total sediment transport rate the process-based approach is adopted. The bed-shear concept is used to predict bed load transport while for the suspended load an exponential form of the timeaveraged concentration is adopted. Model results are compared with a modified CERC formula in which the dependence of coefficient K on grain size has been incorporated
