Abstract: ADCPs are unrivalled when it comes to measuring water velocity. However, this speciality is not sufficient for vessel mounted applications. Therefore ADCPs are internally equipped with pitch, roll, heading and Bottom Track. There are circumstances that these internal sensors are not adequate and data from external sensors are necessary. Precaution must be taken when merging this data, otherwise significant errors are introduced. This paper presents some examples of these errors, describes a tool for understanding such errors and a qualitative analysis of errors is made.
