Abstract: This paper investigates overgrowth and nuisance of water hyacinths in rivers, lakes and reservoirs in the south of China, application of water hyacinths in wastewater treatment as well as other utilization such as green fodder, paper-making raw materials and so on. Also, some measures of water hyacinth control such as biological and chemical methods, as well as artificial and mechanical dredges are investigated.
