Abstract: The paper presents results of hydrodynamic analyses of flow in a multipurpose pond with enhanced mixing. The pond will be used for artificial recharge of an aquifer and for recreation. The mathematical model capable for representing large eddies of a complex turbulent flow field in confined water bodies, developed by spatial filtering of depth-averaged equations, has been successfully applied to the analysis of enhanced mixing in the multipurpose pond. Forced circulation and artificial mixing of water in the pond is planned to be produced by special pumps. Optimum shape of the pond, number, capacity, alignments and positions of pumps have been determined by numerical simulation of the flow in the pond. The mathematical and numerical model, which were used, in the stage of designing of the pond near Pancevo, are presented in this paper.
