Abstract: A one-dimensional mathematical model to simulate the bed variation has been recently developed. The basic idea is to estimate the variation of longitudinal bed profile by solving a differential equation, called bed variation equation, that expresses the continuity equation for sediment as function of friction factor. The model is based on the depth-averaged equations for flow and sediment. In this work the option to treat separately the suspended load and bed load is introduced. The variation of bed material size distribution curve in time and in space is simulated and the interchange between the sediment on the bed and the flow over it is analyzed.
