Abstract: In the present paper, a 2D depth-averaged numerical model of a river bifurcation is tested towards experimental values, as measured on a physical model. The comparison is performed in terms of prototype values. A comprehensive analysis and discussion of results is reported in order to highlight the applicability of numerical models to river engineering problems, in a comparison with the physical ones. In particular, river regulation design is addressed, with the main objective of determining the discharge subdivision rate at the river node, for flood risk analysis.
