Abstract: Soil water retention curves are required in catchment modeling and management of irrigation water. Many empirical models have been developed to obtain these curves for a soil. In this study, artificial neural network approach has been used to develop water retention curves for several soils using the measured data of matric potential and soil moisture content. It is shown that the curve obtained by an ANN is much better than that obtained using an empirical model.
