Abstract: In most practical cases, density currents flow over non-plane surfaces. This work uses laboratory experiments to collect velocity profiles of the currents flowing over different bed types. Herein, three different configurations of beam-roughened beds are examined and compared with that of the flat surface. The adjustments in the vertical velocity profiles at the presence of different roughened beds are investigated. Furthermore, this work analyses the impact of bed roughness on entrainment of ambient water into these currents. The primary results of this research show that increasing the spacing between the roughness elements causes further deceleration of the currents and enhanced water entrainment rates into the dense underflows
