Abstract: For Republic of Armenia water resources have especially important meaning as a social, economic, ecological and political value that should be taken into account as a basis for reforms implementation in water resources and systems management. The variety of water resources, the presence of a large quantity of hydrological data obtained during decades, and the operation of complex water consumption systems require the application of modern computer systems and especially GIS for databases and water use management. Combined application of GIS technologies and satellite survey images allows to process large amounts of spatial information relevant to all aspects of water resources. Due to GIS application it is possible to carry out the statistical analysis of the data, create qualitative and quantitative isolinear maps of the data, divide territory by qualitative parameters, etc. The main water consumption sectors in Armenia, key problems and ways of solution by means of GIS application are considered in this paper. It is possible to apply the geo-information technologies during creation of information systems on natural resources (water, forest, air, land) consumption as well as for assessment and forecasting of ecological situation in Armenia.
