Abstract: Scaling properties of annual maximum rainfall series are examined and tested to see if they are useful to obtain IDF relationships in cases of scarce information. Results show that annual maximum rainfall series exhibit statistical scaling and that this approach produces reliable IDF relationships. Results agree well with observed frequencies in a wide range of climates, including mountain desert, mediterranean and humid climates subject to strong maritime influences.
