Abstract: For the past tw o decades, a navigation ice boom has alleviated ice problems at the head of the Little Rapids Cut, a channel constriction on the St. Marys River near Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. This study assesses the feasibility of replacing portions of the ice boom with artificial islands constructed of quarried stone.
