Abstract: The accurate measurement of dissolved oxygen (DO) and total dissolved gas (TDG) in reservoirs and in the water released from dams has become increasingly necessary as water quality concerns have grown in recent years The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), recently completed a Lake Improvement Program (LIP) designed to meet established DO and minimum flow goals downstream from 16 major TVA dams. Several types of aeration systems were installed at TVA hydroplants under this program. Studies involving DO and TDG measurements were conducted to help determine the aeration technique to be applied, to evaluate aeration efficiency after the selected systems were installed, and to help determine operating procedures.
