Abstract: The physical model study of several jet-breaker concepts was performed in a two-pump intake model with pipe inflow to find the most suitable configuration for providing a uniform flow condition at the pump. The concepts investigated were: weir-curtain wall baffle arrangement, curtain wall-weir baffle arrangement, rows of small-size baffle columns, half rows of large-size baffle columns, and horizontal baffle wall. Several arrangements of each concept were tested for six pump operating conditions and water levels. For each recommended final configuration, the baffle geometry, surface and sub-surface vortex classification, pump bell throat swirl angle, and pump bell throat axial velocity measurements are reported.
