Abstract: According to the World Bank, the World's supply of clean, potable water is rapidly decreasing due to many abuses of the resource. This is particularly a problem in the island communities of the World, which number more than one-hundred thousand. To supply remote communities such as these islands, a floating wave-powered reverse-osmosis (RO) desalination system is discussed. It is shown that the system can supply potable water at a cost of less than $1 per 1000 gallons when operating in a sea having an average wave height of 1.5 meter and a period of 7.5 seconds.
