Abstract: The dynamic character of river morphology is considered at various scale levels, from microscale turbulence and sediment motion, via bedforms, cross-sectional profile, longitudinal profile and channel alignment, through to the channel pattern at the draina-ge basin level. Linear and nonlinear dynamic behaviour is considered at each scale level, and dynamic interactions across the levels are discussed.
