Abstract: The procedures for designing urban stormwater infiltration in Poland are presented and were developed from studies of rainfall, runoff and infiltrated water quality, and infiltration characteristics of various soils found in the Warsaw area. The assessment of runoff quality in comparison to the regulations for discharge of sewage effluent indicated that runoff from most urban surfaces was of an acceptable quality and could be infiltrated directly into the soils. This was particularly true for roof runoff, and even some street runoff could be infiltrated after pretreatment by removal of suspended solids. The most severely contaminated street and parking lot runoff should be discharged into sewers and treated at the wastewater treatment plant.
