Abstract: This paper elaborates on activities which have been implemented in the scope of a new integrated water resources management policies for sustainable development starting from various conventions and agreements to existing projects within the river basins, small watersheds and urban units. The author would like to stress the fact that at the end of this century, an adequate surrounding for the execution of adopted policies does not exist due to the unbalanced economic and political powers, frequent hostilities between different national and confessional groups, terrorism and inability and bureaucracy of international organizations for preventive actions. The ideal approach to the integrated water resources management would require implementation of agreed policies on the whole river basins. Due to existing situation it is most appropriate to accept the basic principles of the river basin management but concentrate on particular activities which can be implemented in riparian countries. This would ensure the phased introduction of sustainable policy into the each of the participating countries. The success of each project will contribute to better understanding of interdependence between riparian states to reach the agreed goals and overcome possible conflicts. These are the imperative actions in achieving the equality between states in international river basin management.
