Abstract: A reliability analysis for water quality management in a river is studied using the AFOSM and MFOSM methods. The variations of discharge and water quality in the headwater, tributaries, and reaction coefficients are considered. The computed results obtained with the AFOSM and MFOSM methods are compared with those from the Monte Carlo method in the QUAL2EU model in terms of mean, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation. The results of the AFOSM and MFOSM methods agree well with those of the Monte Carlo method. Reliabilities of not violating existing water quality standards at several locations in the Han River are computed and presented using AFOSM, MFOSM, and Monte Carlo.
