Poisson Pulse Queueing Model for Residential Water Demands

Abstract: The intensity, duration, frequency and volume of residential water demands are modeled as a nonhomogeneous Poisson rectangular pulse (NPRP) process. Assuming plug flow conditions in the distribution system, the NPRP premise leads directly to expressions for the probability distribution and moments of the busy servers, flow rate, Reynolds number, travel time, and disinfectant concentration at any point along the supply network. Field measurements show good agreement between modeled and observed water demands at 18 single family homes along a dead-end main.
