Abstract: One day storage plus several hours operational reserve is minimal for practical flexible on-farm operation. Overnight (12-16 hr) storage can be used with appreciable on-farm scheduling restrictions on startup time or supply canal management and larger capacity facilities. The small cost saving is seldom economical. It is essential to develop an operation plan that included the flexible on-farm needs of variable rates, durations, startup times, and labor.
