Abstract: An experimental investigation into the merging of a line of weakly advected jets in a coflowing ambient fluid has been conducted. The experimental results compare favourably with the predictions from a numerical model. The performance of the model is satisfactory in the axisymmetric, merging and two-dimensional regions for the cases considered in this investigation. The results indicate that the assumptions about the nature of the changes to the velocity profiles during merging are correct. The results also indicate that the ratio of the port spacing to the axisymmetric coflowing jet length scale, governs the behavior of merging jets in a coflowing ambient fluid and can be used as the characteristic parameter of the problem.
