Abstract: Settlements, traffic- and parking spaces that reach far into the river meadows led to steril and abstracted river sections. The growing ecological consciousness of the population in Germany made it possible to rehabilitate numerous river sections and redevote them to their original significance. Due to many constraints at river banks that arise from human use very often the installation of bank strips is a first step in this process.
