Abstract: No tidal harmonic analysis but computation of tidal characteristic numbers is pre-sented in this paper. The new feature is a method to compute such numbers from time series data of numerical models over an entire model area. The method is based on a phase correct determination of high and low water times (and values) as well as slack water times of ebb and flood current. From this the characteristic numbers can easily be derived for every computational point in the domain.
