Abstract: Four numerical models: a linear and non-linear k-ε model, and two algebraic stress models were used to simulate 3D flow and solute transport in compound open channel in comparison with experimental data where dye was injected near the surface at the main channel/flood plain intersection. The effects of secondary circulation, eddy viscosity and lateral flux on solute transport were examined. It was found that lateral velocity affect the position of peak concentration, concentration gradient increased as eddy viscosity decreased, and that an increase in lateral flux was attributed to a decrease in diffusion in this particular case.
