Abstract: Interaction between the flow and the mobile boundaries produces channel patterns which are classified as meandering or braided. The rate of transporting sediment depends upon the rate of bank caving. In this paper the rate of transporting sediment is given theoretically and experimentally. In uniform materials and on a uniform slope, a series of uniform bends will develop. This development is described theoretically and a mathematical model is compared with the experimental data. Bend development of the straight channels have been studied with the purpose of improving the understanding of river morphololgy. The scope of this prediction is to analyse the evolution of alluvial channels by means of analytical hydromechanics in order to better understand the physical and morphological processes of channel formation.
