Abstract: Large accumulations of sediment have been deposited in the upper reaches of Elephant Butte Reservoir, which is located in the Rio Grande basin in the state of New Mexico in the United States. Because of the large sediment load carried by the river which has been deposited in the delta, various alternatives are being considered to manage sediment deposition in the delta. A regime analysis was conducted to assist in the design alternatives to predict stable channel widths, depths, slopes and velocities to assist in future design of alternatives to maintain a stable channel through the delta and to assist in management of sediment deposition in the delta.
