Abstract: A channel section has propensity to maintain a value of entropy that remains stable and invariant when the flow fluctuates, and can be used to classify various channels and conduits. The entropy has been linked to hydraulic variables such as the energy coefficient, velocity distribution and sediment concentration at a channel section It is, therefore, advantageous to determine the entropy that may be represented by the φ or M value of a section, to facilitate determining the variables.
