Finite Amplitude Scour and Grain Sorting in Wide Channel Bends

Abstract: We develop a 3-D model able to predict finite scour and lateral sorting in constant curvature wide channel bends at equilibrium. The theory assumes that lateral sorting is complete. It is shown that, in order to satisfy the constraint of constant sediment flux, channel slope in the curved reach must differ from the slope of the straight reach.
