Abstract: Experiments were conducted on the transport of graded sediment by uniform flow in a laboratory flume. Differences are observed in the bedload transport rates and bed surface for a fed and unfed experiment. Observations are made of the effects of sediment flux on a river's ability to reach equilibrium. Temporal changes in bed state and transport rate are related to a progressive wave of grain immobility using a semi-theoretical model.
