Abstract: Model prediction and field data have shown that diurnal temperature variation is not uniform along the entire reach of the Sacramento River. Nodes of minimum diurnal temperature variation occur at multiple locations, separated by one day's transit time along the longitudinal axis of the river. A physical description of this response is presented and discussed accompanied by both model simulation and field data.
