Abstract: The vertical sediment concentration profile is important for the sediment transport in the flow direction in free surface flow. The concentration profile depends on the fall velocity of the sediment and on the turbulent transport of the sediment particles in vertical direction. Generally it is assumed that the turbulent transport can be described as a diffusion process. It can be shown that in that case the diffusion coefficient, which is to be used, deviates only slightly from the kinematic eddy viscosity (the so-called Reynolds analogy).
