Abstract: With specific reference to the discretization of the Richards' equation by a finite difference method, it has been shown that the selection of effective methods of weighting internodal quantities allows to improve accuracy of numerical solutions. Particularly, under debate is the selection of the optimal technique for evaluating the so-called internodal hydraulic conductivity, namely the value of k between adjacent nodes centred at the cells of the spatial grid [see Zaidel and Russo, 1992 for a more comprehensive discussion].
