Abstract: The storativity in vertically integrated groundwater flow models for extended phreatic aquifers is usually considered as a constant. Hysteresis in the capillary pressure-water content relationship of the capillary zone may, however, significantly influence the response of the groundwater table in time-dependent flow processes. The impact of hysteresis on groundwater flow is taken into account by a storativity function. The hysteretic concept is applied to periodic groundwater flow regimes.
