Abstract: This paper describes a Finite Element-based numerical model to predict the lateral distribution of depth-averaged velocity and Reynolds shear stress as well as the boundary shear stress in compound channels. The model is validated against the analytical solution for the case of trapezoidal channels. A comparison of the model with SERC-FCF series 020501 experimental data is given as an example of a particular calibration philosophy.
