Abstract: A 3-D model investigation has been carried out within a joint European research project, in order to assess the effects of the obliquity and "multi-directionalit y" of wave attack on the overtopping performance of different types of caisson breakwaters. The parametric influences on wave overtopping of structure geometrical changes and wave conditions are described in terms of simple correction factors to be applied to the abundant results obtained with the simple vertical face structure under long-crested normal attack. A general expression is derived and compared with the overto pping performance of sloping structures.
