Abstract: Based on project experiments and field observations in the recent years, the research analysed the environmental factors influencing sea ice industrialised exploitation with respect to ice resource abundance degree, resource potential, and the supply and gathering of the conditions of sea ice resources in the Bohai Sea according to sea ice resource status and considering the demand to the environment on sea ice mining technology. Then, several key factors were studied, such as the area difference in sea ice resource distribution and regeneration ability, coast type, and the prevailing wind and ocean current in winter, etc. Based on the above analysis, the research evaluated the location suitability of the entire coast of the Bohai Sea for sea ice industrialised exploitation by using geographic information system (GIS) technology. The research results revealed that some areas along the eastern coast of Liaodong Bay, which can be represented by Bayuquan, Taiping Bay, and Changxingdao, are very favourable to sea ice industrialised exploitation, and should be especially concerned during the process of realizing industrialised exploitation to Bohai Sea ice resource.
