Abstract: A numerical method for integrating an anisotropic elastic plastic constitutive law for sea ice is presented. The anisotropic elastic plastic law specificaUy describes individual systems of leads and follows their evolution. Sea ice is assumed to be oriented, with ice condition in each direction described by its thickness distribution. The numerical scheme allows approximate integration of the constitutive law, including lead orientation and thickness distribution. The new anisotropic constitutive law will eventually be inserted into a finite element and finite difference codes for testing. It will be made available for incorporating into other research models and the Navy PIPS operational system.
