Abstract: The effects ofscale on the momentum balance equation are studied by introducing nondimensional variables. The new anisotropic plasticity constitutive law and oriented thickness distribution are reviewed. The older isotropic law is compared with the new anisotropic law. These laws do not change with length scale, . but parameter values might need to change if time scales of weeks to months are used because the wind forcing and ice motion might be reduced.
