Abstract: The design forces and resistance for offshore structures are detennined by using the reliability method, and their sensitivities are discussed for changes in the ice input data. The sensitivities are considered for changes in (1) the shape of an ice force parameter distribution, (2) the ice force parameter or force equation, (3) the rate of the ice features hitting the structure, and (4) the mean and standard deviation of the ice force probability distribution. The sensitivity is important to know in order to assess when the input distributions are described with sufficient accuracy. Hence, the cost of obtaining data can be reduced or made to be more effective.
