Abstract: The methodology and results of the compressive strength of fine grain ethanol model ice with rectangular and dumbbell specimens are introduced. In this paper, the conditions of the failure modes of rectangular specimens, such as sample sizes, loading rates and friction between loading plate and sample contact surface, are discussed in detail. The basic characteristics of the model ice compressive strength are described and the results from the two shaped specimens at rectangular and dumbbell are comprised.
