Abstract: Edge cracked square plate specimens were used to perform a compliance study which determined the fracture energy of saline S2 ice. The compliance of 2.54 m and 1.27 m square specimens were determined for a large range of normalized crack lengths. Using the associated compliance curves, fracture energies were calculated directly.
