Abstract: The Lake Erie - Niagara River ice boom (LENRIB) spans the outlet of Lake Erie at the upstream end of the upper Niagara River. The boom is installed every winter to promote the formation of a stable ice cover on Lake Erie and to reduce ice discharge into the Niagara River. This paper presents a numerical model evaluation of the performance of the existing boom and the effectiveness of modifications in reducing ice discharge over the boom.
