Abstract: This winter was unusually dry and cold in the southeastern part of the country. The baseflow became very low. Specially in small and medium-sized rivers large icings were formed. It was expected that this situation could give various ice and discharge problems, specially with increased waterflow. Therefore measures were considered to reduce possible damages. The measures, digging, sanding and blasting, were all incorporated, and digging was by far the most used. The problems to come were very much depending on the weather conditions. Fortunately the weather also at the end of the winter was very unusual and very favourable for this situation. Under these circumstances the measures proved to be sufficient.
