Abstract: Constant strain rate compression tests have been performed on S2 freshwater ice under strain rate of 10-5 s-1 with temperature of -5C. The grain size of ice was about 5mm. Samples were unloaded before they reached maximum stress and cut into two parts along the loading direction and perpendicular to the columns. The number and length of cracks are counted and measured. The test results are presented and some related problems are discussed.
