Abstract: The intensive vibration of flexible structures induced by continuous crushing of ice indicates the dynamic nature of ice loads and the necessity of countermeasure to this problem. A systematic approach of structural optimization for improving dynamic ice -- structure interaction is presented in the paper on the basis of matrix perturbation and dynamic substructure techniques. The approach and its effect are partially illustrated by a Bohai jacket.
